Dear child,
You have been living in my womb comfortably for 18 weeks now =) Praise God! You are healthy and alive.
The last time we visited the doctor, mom was offered to go through prenatal screening, to detect any birth defect before you are born, such as down syndrome, neural tube defects, spina bifida, etc.
And during the consultation, the doctor told us that there is actually nothing we can do to treat you while you are in the womb, if the result found to be positive. Unless, we decide to ‘solve’ the problem once and for all, and abort you, which is the last thing we would do to you.
We believe that you are the precious gift from God, and you will be the best addition to our family according to His goodness and wisdom, no matter what is your health condition, how you will look like, and who you will become.
Knowing our belief and stance about abortion, the doctor then told us that it won’t do us any good to go through the prenatal screening because mom might get upset and stress during the whole pregnancy, and it will affect you negatively. It won’t be too late for us to deal with the issue when you are born.
So at the end, we decided to skip the prenatal screening and trust you in God’s loving hand. For we believe that God is in control and He works in you, even when you are still in my womb.
May you grow healthily, my child. We love you…

Please do not get me wrong. I have nothing against prenatal screening. There are many parents who had benefited from it. I think it is just a personal choice whether we want to have it or not.

it’s the same as finding out about the gender early. personal choice. I still can’t change the baby’s gender when he or she comes out, but I’d like to know early. Just like I can’t change the baby’s condition when bub comes out, but I’d like to know early, to prepare myself mentally I suppose if bub comes out with down syndrome or whatever other conditions. so i had the screening done for both. As you mentioned above, it’s a personal choice.

We had our first in June (he’s 9 months now) and our response was exactly the same – leave it in God’s hands. I loved the way you wrote this post TO your baby, instead ABOUT your baby… So cute!
